Key Takeaways
- Gold closed at 4377.1 on Sept 22, giving back a modest 0.12% after Thursday’s +2.29% expansion candle. The 4420–4440 zone has now rejected price twice in five sessions.
- Saturn is retrograde at 18°01’ Pisces in Revati nakshatra — the classic “pressure without resolution” signature. Historically this favors range extension over trend initiation in gold.
- The Sun at 4°59’ Virgo sits in Uttara Phalguni, a Sun-ruled nakshatra. Since the Sun rules gold, this is a supportive but measured placement — not a breakout placement.
- Gann Square of 9 places the pivot at 4388, with the next major resistance cluster at 4416/4444 and support at 4360/4332.
- Moon enters Sagittarius (bullish for gold) on Sept 24, but only after transiting a bearish Scorpio window on Sept 23. Expect a two-day tug-of-war before the directional move.
This Week’s Planetary Weather
Let’s start with the ground truth from the Swiss Ephemeris, because this is where most retail astro-traders go wrong — they trade their memory of transits instead of the actual ephemeris.
Here is the real sidereal sky as of September 22, 2026:
| Body | Position | Nakshatra | Nakshatra Lord | State |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sun | 4°59’ Virgo | Uttara Phalguni | Sun | Direct |
| Moon | 11°43’ Capricorn | Shravana | Moon | Direct |
| Mars | 2°15’ Cancer | Punarvasu | Jupiter | Direct |
| Mercury | 24°04’ Virgo | Chitra | Mars | Direct |
| Jupiter | 23°44’ Cancer | Ashlesha | Mercury | Direct |
| Venus | 12°03’ Libra | Swati | Rahu | Direct |
| Saturn | 18°01’ Pisces | Revati | Mercury | Retrograde |
| Rahu | 3°57’ Aquarius | Dhanishta | Mars | Retrograde |
| Ketu | 3°57’ Leo | Magha | Ketu | Direct (nodes always Rx by convention) |
The Sun in Uttara Phalguni — Gold’s Ruler in a Stable Seat
The Sun rules gold. Full stop. When the Sun occupies a nakshatra it also rules — Uttara Phalguni — you get what I call a “sovereign placement.” The planet is in dignity, its significations are amplified, and the market tends to respect structure rather than break it.
Translation for the chart: support levels hold better than they should, and breakout attempts fail more often than random chance would suggest. Uttara Phalguni is the “latter victory” star — it rewards patience and punishes impatience. In practical terms, chasing the 4420 break with market orders is a low-probability play this week.
Saturn Retrograde in Revati — The Ceiling That Won’t Move
Saturn at 18°01’ Pisces, retrograde, in Revati. Revati is the final nakshatra of the zodiac — the “gatekeeper.” Saturn here is the classic resistance node: it doesn’t cause crashes, it causes stalls. Prices grind against a wall until the wall moves.
And because Saturn is retrograde, the wall is moving toward price from above, not away from it. This is why I am treating 4444 as a hard ceiling this week, not a soft one.
Mars in Cancer, Jupiter in Cancer — A Volatility Engine
Mars at 2°15’ Cancer sits in Punarvasu, whose lord is Jupiter. Jupiter itself sits at 23°44’ Cancer in Ashlesha, whose lord is Mercury. This creates a chain: Mars → Jupiter → Mercury. In practice, that means sudden moves (Mars) get amplified by liquidity (Jupiter) and then get chopped up by news flow (Mercury).
That is exactly what we saw last week: Sept 17 printed +2.29%, Sept 18 printed +0.99%, and then Sept 21–22 gave back most of it. That’s a Mars-Jupiter-Mercury signature — impulse, expansion, then noise-driven retracement.
Venus in Swati — Valuation at an Extreme
Venus at 12°03’ Libra in Swati, ruled by Rahu. Venus governs valuation extremes in gold. Swati is a Rahu-ruled nakshatra — the “independent” star. When Venus sits here, gold tends to be expensive relative to its own recent mean, and mean-reversion pressure builds.
We are 4377 against a 7-day range of 4273–4439. That’s a wide range, and price sits in the upper-middle. Not extreme, but not cheap. Venus in Swati says: do not add length at the highs this week.
Moon Sign Changes — The Two-Day Pivot
Moon sign is the fastest-moving variable we track, and for gold the historical correlation is clean:
- Sagittarius Moon → bullish for gold (Jupiter-ruled, expansive)
- Scorpio Moon → bearish for gold (Mars-ruled, contracting)
Today the Moon is at 11°43’ Capricorn in Shravana — neutral-to-mildly-bearish (Saturn-ruled, disciplined). The sequence ahead:
- Sept 22–23: Moon finishes Capricorn, enters Aquarius (Saturn/Rahu ruled — choppy, range-bound)
- Sept 23–24: Moon enters Scorpio — the bearish window. This is the highest-risk two-day stretch for longs.
- Sept 24–26: Moon enters Sagittarius — the bullish window. If price is going to make a run at 4416, this is the window.
So the week has a natural shape: chop → dip → rally attempt.
Gann Levels — Square of 9
Base price for the Square of 9 calculation: 4377 (Sept 22 close).
The 360° wheel gives us the following key angles. I’m using the standard 0/90/180/270 cardinal cross plus the 45° diagonals, then projecting forward one full revolution for the swing targets.
| Level Type | Price | Gann Angle | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| R3 (major) | 4444 | 180° from 4332 | Confluence with Saturn ceiling |
| R2 | 4416 | 90° from 4377 | First real supply |
| R1 | 4396 | 45° from 4377 | Minor — fade zone |
| Pivot | 4388 | 0° | Week’s balance point |
| S1 | 4360 | 45° down | First demand |
| S2 | 4332 | 90° down | Structural support |
| S3 (major) | 4306 | 180° down | Swing low defense |
Two things stand out.
First, the 4416 level is not arbitrary. It is the 90° Square of 9 projection from the current pivot, and it lines up with the Sept 21 high of 4422.1 and the Sept 18 high of 4439.8. You have three independent references clustering in the 4416–4440 band. That is a genuine supply zone, not a line I drew because it looked nice.
Second, the 4332 level is the line in the sand. It was the Sept 15 close (4332.8) and it is the 90° down projection. If 4332 breaks on a daily close, the Square of 9 opens 4306, and below that the structure gets thin until the Sept 16 low at 4273.
The Wider Range Context
Let me put last week’s action in a table because the numbers tell the story better than adjectives:
| Date | Open | High | Low | Close | Change |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sept 14 | 4375.0 | 4396.8 | 4293.0 | 4351.9 | −0.53% |
| Sept 15 | 4340.3 | 4358.2 | 4301.6 | 4332.8 | −0.17% |
| Sept 16 | 4333.5 | 4413.1 | 4273.3 | 4387.5 | +1.25% |
| Sept 17 | 4301.4 | 4423.3 | 4294.5 | 4399.7 | +2.29% |
| Sept 18 | 4381.6 | 4439.8 | 4372.2 | 4424.9 | +0.99% |
| Sept 21 | 4413.0 | 4422.1 | 4360.3 | 4383.9 | −0.66% |
| Sept 22 | 4382.5 | 4414.1 | 4371.4 | 4377.1 | −0.12% |
The pattern is clear: expansion Sept 16–18, distribution Sept 21–22. The 4439.8 high on Sept 18 was the top of the impulse. Everything since has been a lower-high sequence — 4422.1, then 4414.1. That is textbook distribution, and it argues for the bear case having the near-term edge until 4388 is reclaimed on a closing basis.
Scenario Analysis
Bull Scenario — Target 4416, then 4444
Trigger: Daily close above 4388 with the Moon in Sagittarius (Sept 24–26 window).
Path:
- Reclaim 4388 → momentum longs enter
- Push into 4396 (R1) → minor resistance, likely a pause
- Break 4416 (R2) → opens 4444 (R3)
Why it could work: The Sun in Uttara Phalguni supports structure, and the Sagittarius Moon window is historically gold-positive. Mars in Punarvasu (Jupiter-ruled) still has expansion fuel. If Mercury clears its Chitra transit without a negative news catalyst, there’s a clean runway to 4444.
Probability: ~35%. The Saturn retrograde ceiling caps conviction.
Bear Scenario — Target 4360, then 4332
Trigger: Daily close below 4360 with the Moon in Scorpio (Sept 23–24 window).
Path:
- Lose 4360 (S1) → stops trigger
- Test 4332 (S2) → the structural line
- Break 4332 → opens 4306 (S3), then 4273
Why it could work: Venus in Rahu-ruled Swati says valuation is stretched. The lower-high sequence (4439.8 → 4422.1 → 4414.1) is a classic distribution tell. Saturn Rx in Revati is a pressure signature. And the Scorpio Moon window is the most bearish two-day stretch of the week.
Probability: ~45%. The bear case has the near-term edge by structure alone.
Chop Scenario — 4360 to 4416
Trigger: No daily close outside 4360/4416.
Why it could work: Saturn retrograde does not create trends — it creates stalls. The Mars-Jupiter-Mercury chain (impulse → expansion → noise) is a chop-making machine. If neither 4360 nor 4416 breaks on a closing basis, we spend the week oscillating around the 4388 pivot.
Probability: ~20%. Low, because the Scorpio/Sagittarius Moon sequence usually forces a directional resolution.
Trade Plan
Here is how I am positioning this week. Size accordingly — this is a plan, not a signal.
Long Setup (Primary)
- Entry zone: 4362–4368 (buy the S1 retest)
- Stop: 4348 (below the 45° projection, tight)
- Target 1: 4396 (R1) — take 50% off
- Target 2: 4416 (R2) — take 30% off
- Runner: 4444 (R3) — trail the rest
- Risk/Reward: Approximately 1:3.5 to T2
Why this zone: Buying at S1 rather than chasing 4388 gives you a defined risk against the structural 4348 level. If 4360 does not hold as support, you are out with a small loss and you re-engage at 4332.
Short Setup (Secondary)
- Entry zone: 4412–4420 (sell the R2 retest)
- Stop: 4448 (above the R3 cluster)
- Target 1: 4388 (pivot) — take 40% off
- Target 2: 4360 (S1) — take 40% off
- Runner: 4332 (S2) — trail the rest
- Risk/Reward: Approximately 1:3 to T2
Why this zone: The 4416–4440 band has rejected price twice. Selling into it with a stop above 4448 gives you a clean invalidation. Do not short below 4388 — that is chasing.
The “No-Trade” Zone
4360 to 4388 is a no-trade zone. This is the pivot buffer. If price is grinding in here, stand aside. The Mars-Mercury chop signature will eat your stops alive.
Risk Notes
1. Saturn retrograde is a ceiling, not a floor. Do not treat Saturn Rx as a crash signal. It is a stall signal. The risk is that you get whipsawed in a range while waiting for a trend that never comes.
2. The Scorpio Moon window (Sept 23–24) is the highest-risk stretch for longs. If you are long from 4362 and the Moon enters Scorpio, tighten your stop. The historical correlation between Scorpio Moon and gold weakness is one of the more reliable Moon-sign edges we track.
3. Rahu in Dhanishta. Rahu at 3°57’ Aquarius in Dhanishta (Mars-ruled) adds a speculative, “sudden shock” undertone. This is a wildcard. It does not change the levels, but it means a headline-driven spike through 4416 or a flush through 4332 is more likely than the base case suggests.
4. Mercury in Chitra. Mercury at 24°04’ Virgo in Chitra (Mars-ruled) is fast, sharp, and news-sensitive. Any Fed communication or geopolitical headline this week gets amplified. Watch the wire.
5. Position sizing. With a 66-point weekly range (4371–4439 last week), a reasonable stop distance is 15–20 points. If your account cannot absorb a 20-point stop on your standard position size, cut your size, not your stop.
The Bottom Line
Gold enters the week at 4377, pinned between a Saturn retrograde ceiling at 4444 and a structural floor at 4332. The Sun in Uttara Phalguni says respect the structure. Venus in Swati says do not chase the highs. The Moon sequence says the week has a shape: chop → Scorpio dip → Sagittarius rally attempt.
The single most important level on the board is 4388. Above it, the bulls get a shot at 4416 and 4444. Below it, the bears press 4360 and 4332.
Trade the levels, not the narrative.
