XAUUSD weekly chart with Gann Square of 9 levels and planetary transit markers

Key Takeaways

  • Gold closed Friday at 4295.2, down 0.33% — the fourth consecutive down session after the September 18 swing high at 4439.8. The 144-point range from that high to Thursday’s 4278.3 low is a textbook Gann retracement zone.
  • Saturn sits at 17°48’ Pisces retrograde in Revati nakshatra (lord: Mercury). Saturn is the classical significator of gold’s resistance and structural pressure — and it is moving backward through the sign that governs dissolution, hidden liquidity, and the erosion of prior highs. This is not a bullish signature for a breakout above 4440.
  • Mars at 4°03’ Cancer in Pushya (lord: Saturn) is the volatility trigger this week. Pushya is a Saturn-ruled nakshatra, meaning Mars’s fire is being disciplined by Saturn’s restraint — expect sharp but short-lived moves rather than sustained trends.
  • Jupiter at 24°18’ Cancer in Ashlesha (lord: Mercury) is the liquidity engine. Jupiter in Cancer is exalted and still expansionary, but Ashlesha is the coiled serpent — liquidity is present but conditional, and it will not chase price.
  • The Moon moves from Aquarius (Shatabhisha) into Pisces, then Aries, then Taurus over the next five sessions. The Sagittarius/Scorpio historical correlation rule does not apply this week — we are in an Aquarius→Taurus lunar arc, which historically favors gold range expansion over directional conviction.
  • Gann Square of 9 puts primary support at 4266 and 4231, with resistance at 4331 and 4388. The 4266 level is the one that decides whether this is a correction or a trend change.

This Week’s Planetary Weather

Let me be precise about what the ephemeris actually says, because there is a lot of noise circulating about Saturn right now.

Saturn is retrograde at 17°48’ Pisces, in Revati nakshatra, ruled by Mercury. Revati is the final nakshatra of the zodiac — the “completion” star. When Saturn retrogrades through Revati, the market’s relationship with prior highs becomes the dominant theme. Old resistance levels get retested from below, and old support levels get remembered. This is why the 4439.8 print from September 18 matters so much: Saturn Rx is effectively asking the market, “do you really believe that high?”

Mars at 4°03’ Cancer in Pushya. Pushya is ruled by Saturn, and it is one of the most “structured” nakshatras in the zodiac — it is the star of nourishment, but nourishment through discipline. Mars here does not produce clean breakouts. It produces violent two-way moves that resolve back toward the mean. If you have traded Mars-in-Pushya weeks before, you know the pattern: an explosive candle, then a full retracement within 48 hours. Do not chase.

Jupiter at 24°18’ Cancer in Ashlesha. Jupiter is exalted in Cancer, which is structurally bullish for liquidity conditions. But Ashlesha — ruled by Mercury — is the nakshatra of the coiled serpent. It gives liquidity, then withdraws it. The practical translation: rallies will be funded but not sustained. Buyers will appear, but they will not overpay.

Mercury at 28°27’ Virgo in Chitra (lord: Mars). Mercury is in its own sign and exaltation, which is genuinely constructive for short-term price discovery. But Chitra — ruled by Mars — adds a decorative, sometimes deceptive quality to that discovery. Mercury in Chitra produces false precision: the market prints a clean-looking level that then fails. This is the noise layer.

Venus at 13°03’ Libra in Swati (lord: Rahu). Venus is in its own sign, which is supportive of valuation. But Swati is Rahu-ruled, and Rahu is retrograde in Aquarius at 3°47’. Venus in a Rahu nakshatra with Rahu retrograde is the classic signature of valuation extremes that do not hold. If gold spikes toward 4388 this week on a Venus-driven bid, treat it as a gift to sell into, not a breakout to buy.

Rahu 3°47’ Aquarius Rx / Ketu 3°47’ Leo. The nodes are stationary in the early degrees of the fixed signs. Ketu in Leo (Magha, lord Ketu) is particularly relevant — Leo is the sign of gold’s display value, and Ketu here suggests the market is losing faith in the narrative premium that carried gold higher into September.

The Sun at 7°55’ Virgo in Uttara Phalguni (lord: Sun). The Sun rules gold. It is in Virgo, in a Sun-ruled nakshatra — this is a self-referential placement. Gold is trading on its own technicals this week, not on macro narrative. That is important: it means the Gann levels will carry more weight than the headlines.

Gann Levels — Square of 9

I run the Square of 9 off the September 18 swing high at 4439.8 and the September 25 low at 4293.3. Here are the levels that matter, calculated on the 360-degree wheel:

Level TypePriceDerivationSignificance
R344884439.8 + 48.2 (1/4 of 193)Major resistance, prior ATH zone
R243884439.8 − 51.8 (Gann 1/8 of range)First real supply
R14331Friday’s high, 90° from swing lowImmediate ceiling
Pivot4295Friday closeDecision line
S142664293.3 − 27.3 (Gann 1/8)First real demand
S242314293.3 − 62.3 (Gann 1/4)Structural support
S341764439.8 − 263.8 (Gann 1/2)Trend-change level

The critical observation: 4295 is the pivot, and gold closed the week pressing directly against it. The 4266 level is the first meaningful defense. If 4266 breaks on a daily close, the Square of 9 projects a fast move to 4231, and below that the 4176 half-range level becomes the target.

On the upside, 4331 is Friday’s high and the 90-degree harmonic from the swing low. A daily close above 4331 opens 4388 — which, notably, is also where Venus-in-Swati would be most likely to produce a fake breakout. Above 4388, the path to 4488 is open, but I would not position for that without a Saturn direct station, which is not in the current ephemeris.

Moon Sign Changes This Week

The Moon is the fastest-moving variable in the system, and for gold specifically it is the timing trigger. Here is the lunar arc based on current ephemeris data:

  • Friday Sept 25 (today): Moon 19°31’ Aquarius, Shatabhisha (lord Rahu). Aquarius Moon with Rahu lord — erratic, headline-sensitive, prone to gap moves. This is why Friday closed weak.
  • Saturday–Sunday Sept 26–27: Moon moves into Pisces. Pisces is Saturn’s current sign, and the Moon here will conjunct Saturn Rx by late Sunday. Expect a low to form in this window. The Moon-Saturn conjunction in Pisces is historically a capitulation signature for gold, not a continuation of the downtrend.
  • Monday–Tuesday Sept 28–29: Moon into Aries. Aries Moon is Mars-ruled and fast. This is where the reaction rally off the Pisces low typically begins. Watch for a push back toward 4331.
  • Wednesday–Thursday Sept 30–Oct 1: Moon into Taurus. Taurus is Venus-ruled, and Venus is currently in Libra. A Taurus Moon with Venus in Libra is the most constructive lunar placement of the week for gold. If the week is going to produce a sustained bid, it happens here.

Important correction to a common misconception: I have seen commentary this week claiming the Scorpio Moon is bearish for gold. The Moon is not in Scorpio this week. The lunar arc is Aquarius → Pisces → Aries → Taurus. The Scorpio rule does not apply. Do not trade a rule that is not active.

Scenario Analysis

Bull Scenario — “The Pisces Low Holds”

Trigger: Moon-Saturn conjunction in Pisces completes on Sunday without a daily close below 4266.

Path: Gold bases at 4266–4295, then the Aries Moon on Monday–Tuesday produces a reaction rally toward 4331. A daily close above 4331 confirms the reversal, opening 4388 by Wednesday’s Taurus Moon.

Targets: 4331 (T1), 4388 (T2), 4439.8 (T3, only if Saturn direct — not expected this week).

Probability: 45%. The Jupiter-in-Cancer exaltation is the structural support for this scenario. Jupiter is still the liquidity provider, and as long as it stays exalted, the dips get bought.

Bear Scenario — “Saturn Rx Wins”

Trigger: Daily close below 4266 on Monday or Tuesday, while the Moon is in Aries (Mars-ruled, fast).

Path: 4266 breaks, stop-run accelerates into 4231. The Mars-in-Pushya volatility signature produces a single violent down candle, then a weak bounce that fails at 4266 (now resistance). By Thursday’s Taurus Moon, gold is testing 4176.

Targets: 4231 (T1), 4176 (T2), 4120 (T3, Gann 5/8 retracement).

Probability: 35%. The Saturn Rx in Revati signature is the structural case for this scenario. Saturn retrograde through the completion star is not a bullish configuration — it is a reckoning configuration.

Chop Scenario — “Pushya Discipline”

Trigger: No daily close outside 4266–4331 through Wednesday.

Path: Mars in Pushya produces exactly what it always produces — a sharp move that fully retraces. Gold oscillates in a 65-point range, frustrating both sides. This resolves only after the Taurus Moon on Thursday.

Probability: 20%. This is the “do nothing” scenario, and it is the one most traders underestimate.

Trade Plan

Here is how I am positioning. This is not financial advice — it is the framework I use at QuantEA Labs.

Bias: Neutral-to-cautiously-bullish, but only above 4266. Below 4266, the bias flips to bearish with a 4231 target.

Entry Zones:

ZonePriceActionStopTarget
Long A4270–4280Scale in 1/342484331
Long B4266–4270Scale in 1/342484388
Long C4335 (breakout)Add 1/343004388
Short A4331 rejectionScale in 1/243524266
Short B4260 breakdownScale in 1/242854231

Position sizing: Half normal size until the Moon-Saturn conjunction completes on Sunday. Mars in Pushya does not reward full size — it rewards patience.

Invalidation: A daily close below 4231 invalidates the entire bullish structure and puts 4176 in play. At that point, the September 18 high at 4439.8 becomes a major top, not a swing high.

Time stop: If gold is still inside 4266–4331 by Friday October 2, close all positions. The setup has failed to resolve and the next planetary trigger (Venus moving out of Swati) is not until the following week.

Risk Notes

1. Saturn Rx means levels get retested, not broken. Do not assume a break of 4266 is a trend change on the first attempt. Saturn retrograde frequently produces false breaks that reclaim within 48 hours. Wait for the daily close.

2. Mercury in Chitra produces false precision. The 4266 and 4331 levels will look cleaner than they are. Do not place stops exactly at the level — place them 15–20 points beyond, where the actual liquidity sits.

3. The Moon-Saturn conjunction in Pisces on Sunday is a low-probability, high-impact event. If it produces a capitulation candle into 4231, the reaction rally off that low can be violent. Do not be short into the conjunction without a tight stop.

4. Rahu retrograde in Aquarius amplifies headline risk. Aquarius is the sign of networks, technology, and collective sentiment. A Rahu-Rx headline event over the weekend — geopolitical, tech-sector, or currency-related — can override all of the above technicals. Size accordingly.

5. The Venus-in-Swati fake breakout is the trap of the week. If gold spikes to 4388 on Tuesday or Wednesday, the temptation will be to chase. Venus in a Rahu nakshatra with Rahu retrograde is the least trustworthy breakout signature in the current ephemeris. Sell into it.

6. Do not trade the Scorpio Moon rule this week. It is not active. The lunar arc is Aquarius → Pisces → Aries → Taurus. Trading inactive rules is how accounts die.

The Bottom Line

Gold enters the week at 4295, pinned between the 4266 support and the 4331 resistance that the Gann Square of 9 defines. Saturn retrograde in Revati says the market is reckoning with the September 18 high, not building toward a new one. Mars in Pushya says the moves will be sharp but not sustainable. Jupiter in Cancer says the dips will be bought — but only at the right levels.

The trade this week is patience at 4266, discipline at 4331, and a willingness to flip bias on a daily close outside that range. The Moon-Saturn conjunction on Sunday is the pivot. Everything after that is reaction.
